We Believe…
Statement of Faith
The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. This Statement of Faith and the Creeds are intended simply as a basis of fellowship among us (i.e., that we all speak the same thing, 1 Corinthians 1:10; Acts 2:42 ). The phraseology employed in this Statement and the Creeds are not inspired nor contended for, but the truth set forth are held to be vital to a full-gospel ministry. No claim is made that these cover all Biblical truth, only that they cover our need to have unity in the essentials.
-
The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of his will for the salvation of mankind, and the final authority for all Christian faith and practice. The scriptures have been transmitted to the present without corruption of doctrine.( Matthew 5:18, John 10:35, 17:17, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:20-21)
-
There is one living and true God, holy, eternal, unlimited in power, wisdom and goodness, (Deut. 6:4), Creator and Preserver of all things both visible and invisible. (Rev. 4:11), who is infinitely perfect (Matt. 5:48), existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of one substance, power and eternity (Matt. 28:19).
Of the Father-
We believe the Father is the Source of all that exists, whether of matter or spirit. With the Son and the Holy Spirit, He made man. By intention He relates to people as Father, thereby forever declaring His goodwill toward them. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through
faith
in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men and in love He both desires and receives penitent sinners.(Genesis 1:1-2/John 1:1-3, Isaiah 64:8-9, Matthew 6:9, Mark 1:9-12, John 4:23-24,)
Of the Son-
Jesus Christ is the true God and true man (Phil. 2:6–11). He was sent by the Father (John 20:21), conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary (Luke 1:34–38). He died on the cross, the Just for the unjust (1 Pet. 3:18), as a substitutionary sacrifice (Heb. 2:9), and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood (Rom. 5:9). He rose from the dead according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:3–4). He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest (Heb. 8:1). He will come again to establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace (Isa. 9:6–7).
Of the Holy Spirit-
The Holy Spirit is a divine person who proceeds from the Father and the Son, and is of the same essential nature, majesty, and glory, as the Father and the Son, truly and eternally God. (John 14:16–18), sent to indwell, guide, teach, gift, empower, and bear His fruit in every believer (John 16:13; 1 Cor. 12:4, 11; Acts 1:8; Gal. 5:22–23). He is the Administrator of grace, and is ever present, assuring, preserving, guiding, and enabling the believer. He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment (John 16:7–11).
The Father is God
The Son is God
The Spirit is God
The Father is NOT the Son
The Son is NOT the Spirit
The Spirit is NOT the Father
There is only ONE God
-
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The Scriptures declare:
His virgin birth (Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:31,Luke 1:35)
His sinless life (Hebrews 7:26, 1 Peter 2:22)
His miracles (Acts 2:22, Acts 10:38)
His substitutionary work on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:3, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
His bodily resurrection from the dead (Matthew 28:6, Luke 24:39, 1 Corinthians 15:4)
His exaltation to the right hand of God (Acts 1:9, Acts 1:11, Acts 2:33, Philippians 2:9-11, Hebrews 1:3)
-
Man was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness." However, man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. (Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 2:17, Genesis 3:6, Romans 5:12-19) We were ALL born outside the garden, we were ALL born of the flesh, and we have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.(Gen 3:22-4:2, John 3:5-6, Rom 3:23, Psalms 14:1-3, 53:1-3)
-
Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all people (1 John 2:2). Those who repent and believe in Him are justified by grace through faith
(Rom. 3:21–24), born again of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:4–7), delivered from the dominion of darkness, transferred into the Kingdom of God’s Son (Col. 1:13), granted the gift of eternal life, and adopted as the children of God (Rom. 8:14–16; John 1:12).
-
We believe that water baptism and the Lord's Supper are the two ordinances of the church to be observed until the time of Christ's return. They are not a means of salvation but are sacramental channels(a means) of God's sanctifying(Holy making, Purifying) grace and blessing to the faithful in Christ Jesus (Matthew 26:26-29; 28:19; Romans 6:3-11; 1Corinthians 11:23-34; 1Peter 3:21)
-
The primary ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. The Spirit indwells, sanctifies, leads, illumines, and graciously empowers for godly living and service all who come to faith in Christ. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ baptizes believers in the Holy Spirit, in whom also we are sealed for the day of redemption. Subsequent to conversion, the Spirit desires to fill, empower, and anoint believers for ministry and witness. (Matthew 3:11; John 1:12-13; 3:1-15; 15:26-27; 16:7-15; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22; Ephesians 1:13-14; 5:18)
-
We believe that the ministry of the Spirit in signs and wonders continues to be as broad, tangible, and powerful among believers today as it was in the early church. We also believe that all the biblical gifts of the Spirit continue to be distributed by the Spirit today; that these gifts are divine provisions central to spiritual growth and effective ministry; and that these gifts are to be eagerly desired, faithfully developed, and lovingly exercised according to biblical guidelines. (John 14:12; Acts 2:14-21; 4:29-30; Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11; 12:28-31; 14:1-33; Galatians 3:1-5)
-
Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. (Romans 12:1-2, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 13:12)
The Scriptures teach a life of "holiness without which no man shall see the Lord."(Hebrews 12:14)
By the power of the Holy Spirit we are able to obey the command: "Be ye holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:15-16)
Sanctification is realized in the believer by recognizing his identification with Christ in His death and resurrection, and by the faith reckoning daily upon the fact of that union, and by offering every faculty continually to the dominion of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 6:1-11, Romans 6:13, Romans 8:1-2, Romans 8:13, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:12-13, 1 Peter 1:5)
“For by one sacrifice Jesus has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” Hebrews 10:14 NIV
-
We believe that the Church is the Bride of Christ and is comprised of all believers in every age. The Church is also God's primary instrument through which he is fulfilling his redemptive purposes in the earth. We believe that God has called the Church to preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations, and especially to remember the poor and to minister to their needs through sacrificial giving and practical service. We also affirm the priesthood of all believers and the importance of every Christian being joined with and actively involved in a local community of the saints (Isaiah 58:6-12; 61:1; Matthew 16:17-19; 28:18-20; Luke 4:18; 21:1-4; Acts 2:17-18, 42; Galatians 2:10; Ephesians 3:14-21; 4:11-16; 1Timothy 6:8; Hebrews 10:23-25; 1Peter 2:4-5, 9-10).
Since God’s purpose concerning man is to seek and to save that which is lost, to be worshipped by mankind, to build a body of believers in the image of His Son, and to demonstrate His love and compassion for all the world, the Church is:
To be an agency of God for evangelizing the world.(Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19,20, Mark 16:15,16)
To be a corporate body in which believers may worship God.(1 Corinthians 12:13)
To be a channel of God’s purpose to build a body of saints being perfected in the image of His Son.(Ephesians 4:11-16,1 Corinthians 12:28, 1 Corinthians 14:12)
To be a people who demonstrate God’s love and compassion for all the world.(Psalms 112:9, Galatians 2:10; 6:10, James 1:27)
-
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
Genesis 1:26-27 NKJV
Of Value and Sanctity
We believe that both men and women are together created in the divine image and are, therefore, equal before God as persons, possessing the same moral dignity and value and have equal access to God through
faith
in Christ. Therefore, we also affirm that all people regardless of race, age, gender, or language must ALL be treated with the utmost dignity and respect, they are image bearers of God. We believe that life begins at the moment of conception in the womb and that spiritual life begins as you are born again of the Spirit. .(Genesis 1:27-28, 9:6; Psalms 139:1-24; John 3:16; Acts 17:22-31; Galatians 3:25-29; Ephesians 2:11-22; James 2:1; 2Peter 3:9; 1Timothy 2:1-7; 1 John 2:2; Revelation 5:1-14)
Of Sexuality
We believe that human sexuality reflects the image of God in terms of intimate love, communication, fellowship, subordination of the self to the larger whole, and fulfillment. We believe all people are called to complete fidelity (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) and should abstain from every form of sexual immorality. Sexual immorality is any sexual fulfillment found outside of a heterosexual monogamous marriage. We believe God intentionally created us sexual beings and that we can fully please God within the sex He created us with.(Matthew 19:4-6; Romans 1:18-32; 13:13-14; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20, 10:8; Ephesians 5:3-14; 1Thessalonians 4:1-8; 1Timothy 1:8-10; Hebrews 13:4).
Of Singleness/Celibacy:
We all face singleness, some of us for life and some for a season. Marriage is not better than singleness and singleness is not better than marriage, each one has received a gift from God. You can perfectly fulfill the will of God while being single and you are a vital part of the family of God. Whether married or single we are all called and created to glorify God with our sexuality. Your biological sex and sexual drive is not sinful but a gift from God and you can and are commanded to glorify God with it. You are not more pleasing to God if you’re married or more holy if your living a celibate life. Don’t divide over the gifts God has given you, rather serve one another in love.
(1 Corinthians 7/Matthew 19:1-12, Mark 10:1-12 1 Corinthians 10:31) John the Baptist, Jesus, and Paul were all single, to say they did not please God in their singleness and sexuality is to deny the scriptures.
Of Marriage:
God's Word makes use of the marriage relationship as the supreme metaphor for His relationship with His covenant people and for revealing the truth that this relationship is of one God with one people. Therefore, God's plan for human sexuality is that it is to be expressed only in a monogamous lifelong relationship between one man and one woman within the framework of marriage. This is the only relationship which is divinely designed for the birth and rearing of children and is a covenant union made in the sight of God, taking priority over every other human relationship. (Matthew 19:1-12; Mark 10:1-12; 1Corinthians 7, 11:2-16; Ephesians 5:22-33; Colossians 3:18-19; Titus 2:1-10; 1Peter 3)
Of Complementarianism:
God declares the created order to be very good, distinguishing men and women as His agents to care for, manage and govern over it. They enjoy equal access to God by faith in Christ Jesus and are both called to move beyond passive self-indulgence to significant private and public engagement in family, church and civic life. We believe that men and women are together the recipients of spiritual gifts designed to equip and empower them for ministry in the local church and beyond. Adam and Eve were made to complement each other. In God’s wise purposes, men and women are not simply interchangeable, but rather they complement each other in mutually enriching ways. Men and women are absolutely equal in essence, dignity and value but are distinct by divine design. As part of God’s good created order, men and women are to have different yet complementary roles and responsibilities in the home and church. Thus we affirm that God has ordained the principle of male headship in both the home and in the local church. As it relates to the church, men and women are both expected to lead; however, the office of elder is reserved for qualified men (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:18; 1Corinthians 11:2-16; Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 5:22-33; Colossians 3:18-19; 1 Timothy 2:11-3:16; Titus 1, 1Peter 3:1-7)
Of Failure/Abandonment
It can often be assumed that if you have failed in any of these areas (valuing human life, sexual identity, celibacy, marriage) that somehow you have committed an unforgivable sin; but this is a lie, it is for such sinners Christ died! Jesus Christ can cleanse us from all sin.(Luke 5:32, John 4, 1Cor 6:9-11, 1Tim 1:8-15, 1John 1:9) We affirm that there are valid Biblical reasons for divorce. Such as Sexual immorality, abandonment, physical abuse… ( Duet 24:1-4, Isaiah 50:1-2, Jeremiah 3:1-8, Matthew 5:31-32, 1Corinthians 7:10-16)
-
We believe in an imminent, personal and physical return of Christ at the end of history to consummate his kingdom-purposes. This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.(Hebrews 10:37, Luke 21:27, Titus 2:11–14, Rev 22:12)
-
We believe that when Christians die, they pass immediately into the blessed presence of Christ, there to enjoy conscious fellowship with the Savior until the day of the resurrection and glorious transformation of the body. The saved will then forever dwell in blissful fellowship with their great Triune God. We also believe that when unbelievers die they are consigned to hell, there to await the day of judgment when they shall be punished with eternal separation from the presence of God.(Matthew 25:46; Luke 16:19-31; John5:25-29; 1Corinthians15:35-58; 2Corinthians 5:1-10; Philippians 1:19-26; 3:20-21; 2Thessalonians 1:5-10; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:1-22:15)
-
We believe that the Kingdom of God came in the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, that it continues to expand by the ministry of the Holy Spirit through the Church, and that it will be consummated in the glorious, visible, and triumphant appearing of Christ when he returns to the earth as King. We believe that after Christ returns, he will bring about the ultimate defeat of Satan, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the eternal blessing of the righteous. At that time, the Kingdom of God will be completely fulfilled in the new heavens and the new earth, in which righteousness dwells and in which he will be worshipped forever. (1Corinthians 15:20-28,50-58; Philippians 3:20-21; 1Thessalonians 4:13-5:11; 2Thessalonians 1:3-12; Revelation 19:1-21)
We have also included in this Statement of Faith an affirmation of The Nicene Creed, which also serves as a summary of our own Statement.
Nicene Creed
We believe in one God the Father Almighty; Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceedeth from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spake by the Prophets. And one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
